Safeguarding

Pavilion Day Nursery has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in its care. Safeguarding means protecting children from abuse, neglect, harm, and exploitation, while ensuring they grow up in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. Nursery staff work together to create a setting where children feel secure, valued, respected, and listened to.

To support safeguarding, we have clear policies and procedures that all staff must follow. These include child protection procedures, health and safety policies, safer recruitment practices, and clear procedures for reporting concerns. Staff receive regular safeguarding training so they can recognise signs of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect, domestic abuse, or other safeguarding concerns.

Staff supervise children carefully at all times and ensure the environment is safe, clean, and suitable for children’s individual needs. Risk assessments are carried out regularly for indoor and outdoor activities, equipment, outings, meals, and sleep times. We follow strict procedures for administering medication, managing allergies, and responding to accidents or emergencies.

We also promote children’s emotional wellbeing by building positive relationships, encouraging confidence, and helping children feel safe to express themselves. Staff observe children closely and record any concerns regarding behaviour, development, injuries, or attendance patterns that may indicate a safeguarding issue.

At Pavilion Day Nursery, partnership with parents and carers is an important part of safeguarding. We communicate regularly with families, share concerns appropriately, and provide support where needed, while always prioritising the safety and wellbeing of the child.

Confidentiality is maintained carefully, and information is only shared with relevant professionals when necessary to protect a child. If staff believe a child may be at risk of harm, they have a legal and professional responsibility to report concerns immediately and follow local safeguarding procedures.

Overall, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We have a duty of care to ensure all children are protected, their wellbeing is supported, and every child has the opportunity to learn and develop in a safe, caring, and secure environment.
